Quick question for all you Burger Antics regulars. If we were going to have a large-ish group for Sunday brunch, when should we aim to be there to minimize wait time? Is our best bet to be there right away at 11 or maybe wait until noon or 12:30 to go? We'll have a few kids with us, so we want to try and time it so they don't have to wait too long. dvelcich , any recommendations? Thank you!!
11 is the way to go. Our Brunches have gotten crazy lately. We're only open for four hours Sundays, so it's pretty packed the whole time. Look forward to serving you! Don't forget to ask for me while you're there. I love hanging with TBers.

I am currently sitting at a bar in Seattle that has been selling Rare to go for the last ten days for $85 each. Over that time, they have sold three bottles.

#ChicagoBeerSceneFTW
Some bar in Austin tried to sell bottles of Rare for onsite for $200. They later dropped it to $150

is it just me, or is penrose not distroing 4 packs anymore? i don't walk into beer stores nearly as much as i used to but i am shopping for a work funciton and noticed that binnys' website has zero penrose packaged offerings available and i don't remember seeing them on shelves the last few times i walked into assorted places. their site also doesn't list any of their main beers as available in 4 pack bottles. maybe i'm just not looking hard enough.

Bottling line forced a number of recalls last year. Lots of capping issues specifically. Exploding bottles and flat beer. All over the board. Not sure what the plan is moving forward but they haven't sold 4 packs at the taproom since summer if not spring.

sucks about their issues but i'm glad to know i'm not crazy.

I ******* hate beer nerds ignoring amazing beers such as Proto Gradus. People suck and ruin everything.
That's what happens when you get a beer name from a dead language.

"Proto Gradus? What's that, C3PO's straight brother? I'll take the Pork Slap."

Strangely though, had they named it Truth and Lies in a Nonmoral Sense there would be lines around every Binny's in the metro area.

I don't even know what this means.

If people don't 'ignore' it, they don't suck? So I have to buy it to not suck? What if I ignore it because the style isn't one I enjoy? (Granted, the me sucking part is obvious, just asking for more context on level of suck).

When they first opened, I was a fan of their year-round offering Navette. When it became clear that this year-round offering was on tap approximately never, I was not as big a fan of that.

I understand why they had to go the way they did with their year-round lineup. Buuuut that doesn't mean I have to like it.

I'm pretty sure I bought 10% of their initial production run. Seriously bought a 4 pack every time I saw it.

Speaking of beers going away does Finch's even sell beer in Chicago anymore? I haven't seen their beer on tap or in a liquor store for quite a while.
I was about to say I see them at my local Jewel all the time but... I didn't see any last night (plenty of Lead Feather and Gone Away!). You should buy a ticket for their tour and ask them in person. Looks like plenty of tickets remain for tours last summer: http://store.finchbeer.com/ (but they are sold out of hats! ******* IT!)

ETA: Looks like they may have paused production in order to move to Long Grove. Full story: http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20151207/news/151209150/ . And per a Facebook post last night:
We have 4 new beers coming to celebrate the New Year...Illinois Distribution only so you'd better get it in the beer trade if you're out of state. Here is one to preview tonight, our Auld Codger Scottish Ale.

Dock Worker (English Mild) Hubble and Grubble (Baltic Porter) and Sloth Overlord (Oatmeal Coffee Stout) will have pictures coming soon as well as news on Long Grove's to-go room!

We hope all 4 beers will be available on store shelves in the next 2 weeks.

On top of that, they apparently stopped brewing Proto Gradus altogether and **** THAT ****.

This reminds me of a quote from Jeremy Danner on twitter a few months ago. "Breweries retire your favorite beer because it wasn't really your favorite beer and you didn't buy enough."

That's dumb. His logic implies that a certain amount of my beer money should go exclusively to my "favorites." That doesn't make sense in the current marketplace, where I could drink 5 different beers every day and still not repeat. If people only bought their favorites, nearly every brewery would be bankrupt. Ticking- even if we don't consider ourselves doing that- is what keeps most of the less-established breweries afloat. I try new things because I'm interested in new things, not because I don't love Two Hearted as much as I claim.

You mean you don't buy a few cases of your local favorites every month, dump them down the drain 3 days later because they are no longer fresh enough, and further support them by buying a steady stream of $50 t-shirts to hand out to family members?

It's like you want the big corporate beer companies to win.

I prefer buying fresh-on-the-shelf two and a half month old BA Coffee Stouts and aging them as long as possible.

Am I doing this right?

Finch's encouraging trading for their beer? If you even included a Finch's beer as an extra you will probably find yourself on a bad trader list.

*glance reads... "brewery, route 53, long grove, moving."*
*thinks, "this must be good, people are discussing it, this is on my way home from work. finally. we needed a good brewery.*

looks like ill be sticking to Tighthead, The Wild Onion Pub, and Emmetts.... :(
On the bright side, it looks like Emporium Lincolnshire is now open. Hopefully, that means at least a respectable beer list.

does this mean finch is no longer building that initech looking complex on the chicago river on top of the most polluted soil in chicago?

side edit, anyone wanna fund this for team middle brow? its so pleasant looking and fits with modern urban architecture. pay no attention to the fact the soil has 100 years of molten pollutants.
