Hey guys, so I made my 1st yeast starter today in the late afternoon maybe around 4 or 5ish. Right now it is in my flask but doesn't look very active. It has a bit of foam on top but isn't covering the entire thing and is a yellow-white color. I don't have a stir plate so I just stir it by hand every so often. I do see some yeast settled on the bottom when I go to stir it up. Can you guys post some pics of your yeast starters so I can see how mine is coming along. I am not cold crashing or decanting it, just letting it chill for 24 hours then pitching it all into my 5 gallon batch I will be brewing tomorrow.

I would leave it at room temperature for as long as you can. Do not chill it at all. It normally takes 18 - 24 hours on a stirplate. It takes longer with intermittent shaking. Ideal would be a 36 hours to 3 days or more.

As to the signs, starters will not react the same way as a full batch beer. On a stirplate you might not see much action without looking closely, sometimes just tiny bubbles rising.

Give the starter a swirl every time you pass by it.
