So I am fermenting porter and on the second day it appears more green or brown than black. I'm wondering if this is normal and the color will change as time goes on. Also, I did a blow off but at the top of the carboy there is a thick green or brown film. I'm wondering if this is just from the foam. It is the same residue that made its way into the blow off tube. I say brown or green because I am color blind and they both look the same. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Even without pictures to be sure, I'd be willing to bet it's hop residue and krausen.

That's what I thought from reading other posts I will send pics and appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

This is normal; I just brewed a chocolate maple porter with Fuggle hops, and noted the exact-same occurence.

Here are some pics.
