hey, i just made a big mistake, i recently bought an extra carboy, because i wanted to do a primary ferment in it so that i can actually see the process because obviously you can't see through the plastic buckets, and now its like foaming out of the top of the airlock, i guess i didn't realize the kraussen was gonna get that high, its a pumpkin ale. i guess with all the extra sediment inside there just made it too much. is it too late to tamper with, and put into the plastic bucket and re-airlock?? or should i just leave it as long as i can?

its only been in there overnight.

do a search for 'blow off tube' on the forums. This is not uncommon, even for pails.

What size did you get? 6.5g is optimum for a primary, 5g for a secondary.

Blow-outs happen. You'll probably lose a couple quarts, but just attach a blow-off tube or put a glass over the top and set the carboy in an easily cleaned location.

Yep... but it's good to have multiple vessels hanging around. I have 2 - 6.5 and 4 - 5g for concurrent fermenting batches.

after my blowout in my 6.5 gallon primary... i got myself a 7.9gallon for primary and secondary in the 6.5g bucket.
