Thought I'd ask here, since this was a beginner's mistake.

I just started fermenting a beer in my 7.5g Anvil Brew bucket 2 days ago. I now realized that, while I did santitize the ball lock unit itself, I forgot to open up the unit and clean/sanitize the valve. Is there anything I can do now to help reduce an infection?
Thanks

Is the first time using the Brew bucket? If so, there probably isn't anything in the valve that would cause an infection. You can always mix some StarSan and water in a spray bottle and with the ball valve closed, spray up the valve to sanitize the outer part of valve. My biggest concern would be if this was a first time use and the valve was not cleaned to remove any machine oils from the manufacturing process, those oils are not food safe.

No, it's not the first time, but it's been over a year since I used it last. I soaked it in the open position, and in my rush I failed to sanitize the valve completely. I'll try spraying some starsan up the nozzle now that it's in the closed position and hope for the best. Thanks
