fermenting chardonnay smells awful

first time making wine from a kit. I'm a beer guy And new to all of this.
my wine has been fermenting for about 3 days now and it smells very yeasty. hard to describe.
is this normal?

As long it doesn't smell like rotten eggs or sulfur, you are fine.
