Made a batch of cider Sunday and put it in a brand new fermenter, new airlock, normal action other than once and a while you hear a high pitch whistle coming from it. I checked the seal of the lid, seems fine, bunghole is not torn. I’m not worried about it, just wondering why or if anyone has experienced this before.

Maybe its possessed and needs an exorcism ?

Trying to cheer itself up because it wanted to be fermenting beer and nor cider?

The cider is having nightmares about becomming infected?

Nah just a leak somewhere you haven't found yet. Could be a seel needed to be a bit damp to seel or beeing new it just needs to mould into a better fit over a few uses

Lol!

I do have two 1 gallon ciders that became infected in the secondary. I’m going to try an experiment and put them in third fermenters and treat with campden.

I always spray the lid and bunghole with starsan as lube, so that would the explain the noise, had I not sprayed it I probably wouldn’t know it has a leak. I’ll have to mark it so I don’t use it for beer.

I would describe it as a quiet high pitched fart every two or three minutes about 2 seconds long. Lol

It went quite sometime last night as fermentation has started to slow.

I wonder how close it got to a lid-launch? :D

Cheers!

Now that might be something right there! Maybe my fermenter’s flaw prevented that. On buckets I do see the lids bulge during the initial start.
