Would something like this work to cool a fermenting chamber? I can get a bunch of them for cheap :)

What's pictured is just the condensing unit - you will also need an evaporator for inside the box that you are trying to cool. If you get someone to connect the evaporator, evacuate the system and charge it with the appropriate refrigerant then, yes, it should work.

Whats the evaporator? Is it a rad looking think? If so there is one in front of the fan and I was told there were already charged. Im a noob when it comes to this stuff :)

You should be able to see 2 radiator looking things. One in each end and a seperation between the two with a fan duct to move air across the evaporator. The condenso will be warm and should also have a fan blowing through it to remove the heat from the refrigerant. Remember that Cooling is removing the heat from something, not cooling it. Sounds like it is the same, but it is not. Heat always flows from high to low and refigerant systems remove heat instead of chilling the air. Just so you know.

We use those for reach in and walk in coolers. It has to be a matched set and they have to be sized properly for the box or you will have trouble with short cycling.
