My fermentation bucket has a lingering beer smell despite being washed since last brew. Is this something that can affect the flavor/aroma of my next batch?

All of my buckets smell like beer. I think as long as you're careful to not scratch the plastic when cleaning, all will be fine. Just heads up, I've gone through a few buckets that were scratched & became infected, something to watch for.

After a few fermentations the plastic buckets will smell like beer. I've used the same bucket for a few years and haven't hadany issues. Just becareful when cleaning they can stratch easily. I typically let soak in Oxyclean Free and water for a few hours and all the dried crude wipes right off. If it's a sunny day I'll set the bucket and top in the sun for a few hours. That helps remove some of the beer smell.

As long as you clean them they won't impart any smell or taste from the previous batches.

As said, HDPE does gain a beer smell. If it bothers you, you can move to PET (the clear plastic) carboys instead. HDPE buckets are pretty darn handy though -- more durable, can take boiling water, carrying handle, removable lid.

Thanks guys. I figured it was a normal finding, but wanted to
be sure. Brew Day Awaits.

A hardcore soak in oxyclean will help get rid of some of the smell too. One scoop per gallon. Fill it with hot water and let sit for a day or two.
