Sorry I know this has been asked before. I read an answer in another thread and the answer wasn't dumbed down enough for me to get it.

I'm doing Richards Pumpkin Ale recipe. I tweaked it a bit by adding maple syrup 5 days into primary,

OG 1.055
G before adding maple syrup 1.008
G after adding maple syrup 1.022

How will I calculate the ABV? Without the maple syrup added I would do the standard 1.055-1.008 x 131 but what with FG after all is done?

Could be wrong, but I would think you'd take the difference between .022 and .008, add that to your OG and then subtract your FG then multiply by 131.5.

As above, with late additions I think it's easiest to calculate the contribution and add to the OG, then use the FG when it's completely done. In this case I'd be suspicious of your SG after adding the syrup, unless you really stirred the crap out of it which I wouldn't recommend when primary fermentation is already done. Beersmith puts maple syrup at 1.030, do you know how much you added in lbs? I would just figure that out and add to OG. The only other thing is you might need to make a slight volume correction for finished volume depending on how much you added.

I added 24 ounces (2 lbs.) to about 6 gallons and I did give it a stir. My guy at the LHBS told me to give it a good slow stir.
