Hey guys, I'm in the process of building an ESB recipe and i'd like some feedback from people who have bewed good ESB's in the past. FYI im shooting for the end of the spectrum with regards to OG and ABV. Thanks

10 Gals:

20 lbs Maris Otter
1 lb Crystal 60
1 lb Carapils
1/4 lb Chocolate malt
1/2 lb Corn Sugar

2 1/4 oz Target 60 min
2 oz EKG 15 min
1 oz EKG 5 min
1 oz EKG Dry hop

Burton Ale WLP023
Single Infusion Mash @154 degrees 60 minutes

That looks great to me. What are your calculated OG, FG, ABV, and IBUs? It's possible that a touch more hops would be beneficial, including in the dry hop. I might use a little dark crystal in place of the chocolate malt (which I assume is there mostly for color).

I upped the sugar to 1 lb and now my OG is 1.060, my ABV is 6.0%, and my IBU's are 49.6. I agree with you about the hop increase and the color increase. I would like to get a nice deep copper color out of it. As it is now it is kind of bland. I will play around with it.

Is this a 10 gallon batch? I would think that much malt would produce a much higher OG.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see now it is a 10 gallon batch
