Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain you would not understand
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.

Johnny used to work after school
at the cinema show.
Gotta hustle if he wants an education
he's got a long way to go.
Now he's out on the street all day
selling Crack to the people who pay.
Got an AK-47 for his best friend
business the American way.

Empire - Queensryche

We all have a weakness
But some of ours are easy to identify.
Look me in the eye
And ask for forgiveness;
We'll make a pact to never speak that word again
Yes you are my friend.
We all have something that digs at us,
At least we dig each other.

Dig - Incubus

It's been a number of years since I've heard the song, but I've been on a Foo Fighters kick lately and got to the One by One album yesterday. In light of the events earlier in the week, I thought this was beautiful.

It's times like these you learn to live again
It's times like these you give and give again
It's times like these you learn to love again
It's times like these time and time again

got a couple regrettable tattoos
But you can't see them when I wear a black suit
Got drunk off of Jagers out in Vegas last June
And them water parks kids yell "Look at that ******"
You know saying 'if looks could kill'?
Well my style is harmless, I shop at GoodWill

~Dumbfounded off Watsky's "A new kind of sexy"

Cold silence has a tendency to atrophy any sense of compassion.

-Tool, "Schism"

Well, low dealer, with snake eyes
You cross me, you realize
You're hot leather, you're cold steel
You make a move, I'll make you feel
Like a human target in my eyes
I've got you within my sites
And by the rope, you will hang
I'ts your neck from this Ratt gang

What we've got here is, failure to communicate...
Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week,
which is the way he wants it,
Well he gets it.
I don't like it any more than you men

Civil War - Guns N Roses " Cool Hand Luke"

The whole thing.

Probably the best-written song I've ever heard.

Eh, I love the song, and it's great, but I don't know about best written.

For me I can think of 10 Bob Dylan songs I'd take over it. Start with Like a Rolling Stone, add some Subterranean Homesick Blues, some Maggie's Farm, some Tangled Up in Blue, and some more in there that I don't care to type right now.

Though it is a fantastic song, I'm just not a fan of his rhyming pattern in it but it tells a pretty cool story.

I'm not the only soul who's accused of hit and run
Tire tracks all across your back I can see you've had your fun
But darlin' can't you see my signals turn from green to red
And with you I can see a traffic jam straight up ahead
You're just like, crosstown taffic
It's so hard to get through to you
Crosstown traffic, I don't need to run over you
Crosstown traffic, all you do is slow me down
And I got better things on the other side of town
Hendrix

I push my fingers into my eyes...
It's the only thing that slowly stops the ache...
But it's made of all the things I have to take...
Jesus, it never ends, it works it's way inside...
If the pain goes on...
Aaaaaaaah!

I have screamed until my veins collapsed
I've waited as my time's elapsed
Now, all I do is live with so much hate
I've wished for this, I've bitched at that
I've left behind this little fact:
You cannot kill what you did not create
I've gotta say what I've gotta say
And then I swear I'll go away
But I can't promise you'll enjoy the noise
I guess I'll save the best for last
My future seems like one big past
You're left with me 'cause you left me no choice

Slipknot - Duality

I saw a couple Schism lines in here. I'd say the whole song could qualify for me. Got me through a bad time several years ago. Sadly, due to that it's hard to listen to it anymore as now it brings back the memories.

I know the pieces fit
'Cause I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smoldering
Fundamental differing
Pure intention juxtaposed
Will set two lovers' souls in motion
Disintegrating as it goes
Testing our communication
The light that fueled our fire then
Has a burned a hole between us so
We cannot see to reach an end
Crippling our communication

I know the pieces fit
'Cause I watched them tumble down
No fault, none to blame
It doesn't mean I don't desire to
Point the finger, blame the other
Watch the temple topple over
To bring the pieces back together
Rediscover communication

The poetry
That comes from the squaring off between
And the circling is worth it
Finding beauty in the dissonance

There was a time that the pieces fit
But I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smoldering
Strangled by our coveting
I've done the math enough to know
The dangers of our second guessing
Doomed to crumble unless we grow
And strengthen our communication

Cold silence has
A tendency to
Atrophy any
Sense of compassion
Between supposed lovers

I find a window in the kitchen, and I let myself in
Rummage through the refrigerator, find myself a beer
I can't believe I'm really here, and she's lying in that bed
I can almost feel her touch, and her anxious breath!

I stumble in the hallway, outside the bedroom door
I hear her call out to me, I hear the fear in her voice
She pulls the covers tighter, I press against the door

I will be with her tonight!

Tyler - The Toadies

Oh Jah, hear my cry, be not far away from I. Though the enemies surround me, they will never conquer I.

Tony Rebel, Hear my cry

"Standing in the sun with a popsicle, anything is possible with a lot of luck and some time to waste" -Soul Asylum

My favorite Steve Earle song: The rain came down

The old man loaded up everything that he owned
On a wagon and headed out west
The old woman fearlessly faced the unknown
'Cause she figured he knew what was best
And they settled down hard on a government grant
With six mouths to feed and forty acres to plant
And the rain came down
Like an angel come down from above
And the rain came down
It'll wash you away and there ain't never enough

Fall turned to winter another year gone
Over and over again
Some took their lives from their land and moved on
And some stayed on to plow it back in
And the good Lord he giveth and he taketh away
And the restless shall go and the faithful shall stay

Now my grandaddy died in the room he was born in
Twenty-three summers ago
But I could have sworn he was beside me this morning
When the sheriff showed up at my door
So don't you come around here with your auctioneer man
'Cause you can have the machines but you ain't taking my land

I'd walk a thousand miles - just to do this all again
And revel all the while - with the few that I call friend
If I could change my ways - in the only way I know
I'd set the world ablaze - and call it even, so...

Take it personal

-Pro Pain, "Take it personal"

"We ate ribs with that dude, but we didn't have a clue..."

Dead Giveaway - Charles Ramsey songefied. Okay not a real song, but dang if I can get it out of my head.

"Yo, head lost
Sippin' this lambic framboise
Spittin' it for whoever demand the answer"

The Roots "Ain't Sayin' Nothin' New"

Not necessarily a favorite, but an obscure (at least to most people) beer style shout out by a damn good hip-hop group is something I can get behind.

Winter is here again, oh Lord, I haven't been home in a year or more
I hope she holds on a little longer
I sent a letter on a long summer day, made of silver not of clay
I've been running down this dusty road

The wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'
Don't tell where I'll be tomorrow
The wheel in the sky keeps on turnin'

Journey

I had murder for breakfast
murder for lunch
murder for dinner and
murder for brunch

Nekromantix "Murder For Breakfast"

That song always gives me a chuckle. I love that band.
