What's your favorite base grain and why?

I love Maris Otter. It's malty, kind of bready and smooth. I use it in pretty much all my beers

I use Hugh Baird. To me it's kinda in between regular 2-row and Maris Otter. It's what I can get cheap locally, so it's what I use.

Luckily i my LHBS has everything.

I normally get rahr 2 row
unless Im brewing english then its maris otter, but only if i want that extra slight bready note.

if I do my hefeweizen then it german pils and wheat.

Its nice to have a well stocked shop so close.

I use Weyermann Pale Ale as my base for most of my brewing. Same reason as Hammy. Adds a better flavor than regular 2 row, but not as "English" as MO.

$46 for 55lb at the LHBS doesn't hurt either.

I actually need to expand my horizons more and use some different base grains in my brewing. You never know what personal discovery you could make.

I am still experimenting. My first sack what Rahr 2 row. The second was Weyermann Pale, the third was Maris Otter and the most recent was Crisp Pale Ale. I will always have some Maris Otter on hand but will also try different other base grains. I have also used Golden Promise for a Scottish Wee Heavy, but I bought close to what I needed for that one.

Getting low on base grains, almost time for a trip to the LHBS for another sack. We'll see what they have.

Rahr 2 row for most brews. $34.99 at Northern Brewer.

Next trip down, I am picking up some MO and Weyermann bags.

Gambrinus pilsner. Great for Belgian, German, and American styles. Easy to adapt to each with specialty malts, but even a SMASH with it is great. I'll make it more malty with a pound of American Munich if needed, or I'll sub in some MO for a British style of beer.

It's a toss up between Rahr 2-row,& marris otter & pale ale malts from Crisp. The Rahr for my hybrid lagers & more American styles. Marris otter & pale ale malts for a more British flavor from pale ales & IPA's. Also brown colored ales.

I have been getting very good results with Great Western 2-row that I can get for ~$25 for a 50 lb sack in a group buy. I don't usually venture too far outside of the American styles so it works for my purposes. If I do want to do an English style, though, Maris Otter all the way.

Rahr 2 row gets used in most of my beers because its dirt cheap and awesome, but my favorite is definitely MO. Nice malty breadiness, such a great malt.

Rahr 2-Row or TF Golden Promise.

I really like the GP, a bit sweeter than MO, I've liked the results with that grain.

I use a lot of 2-Row as my base, as I can get that really cheap. Also IMO the Rahr is the best 2-Row base I've used.

Briess Pale Ale. A tad darker than others and a nice subtle character to it. I change it up all the time but end up coming back to this when I plan new recipes or brew my best ones.
