1st taste of new batch. I was not happy with the taste of my sample right before bottling but it turned out to be a good refreshing summer beer. Its 91 outside and this is keeping me happy and cool.
I use the recipe from Morebeer. I think it's called Plump Wheel. It tastes great, if you like how Fat Tire tasted about 10-15 years ago before it was as widespread.
Looks a mite pale for an amber ale and I'm wondering why MoreBeer is using a clean ale yeast.
I'm confused. I thought this was supposed to be done with a Belgian yeast but maybe I'm mistaken. I've seen two different recipes for "Fat Tire" clones using US-05/1056/WLP001 and Belgian Abbey ale yeast. Hmmm...
Agree on the color. That looks like my 1.060 IPA that is 97% 2-row and 3% C20.
The recipe more beer has on their website will get you pretty close but it's a hard one to get as good as it was ~15 years ago. Clean ale yeast is on target for a fat tire clone.
First time I had it was in Denver circa 2004 and what they sell now is barely reminiscent of that liquid gold. I don't spend my own money on it any more.
I thought the color was off too. It doesnt taste as full bodied as the original Fat Tire but it's an enjoyable beer. Its a little more pilsner like. Not sure what happened.
