Drank a Fantôme In Flowers this afternoon. Not unlike a refreshing herbal soda. Lavender and aloe vera. Super clean yeast profile. Enjoyable spices but the yeast didn't have the most unique character (yet). Kinda wish it hadn't been one per person on Etre.

I believe Etre’s allocation was limited as most was destined to be distributed. Having said that...the collaborating gypsy brewers i think are based in Berlin but some has started showing up stateside.

I bugged the hell out of the local distributor/shops when you posted this and Strange Ghost had hit Michigan but I've just gotten mostly shrugs. You can only do so much...

I know the feeling. Ive given up all hope for any place “close to me” being able to get anything. But luckily, the markets that do get it seem to get enough of it that maybe someone would be willing to help you out if you asked or took to the trade forums?

3 bottles of this arrived yesterday at my place care of an awesome person in this thread who answered my request in here.

The time has come. With Dany going ballistic lately with all these new one-off creations, and the assistance of Etre Gourmet selling them online, and the help of some great people in this thread. I am making it a point to drink 6 new to me Fantomes over the course of the next 48 hours which will bring my grand total to 100 unique bottled Fantome offerings.

Doing the good lord's work.

First up, Ghost in the Kettle

When I popped this open, it had a unique smell like it was going to be quite malty and floral. Taking my first sip, crushes that initial impression as its bone dry. It kinda has an over-steeped strong tea feel with something floral and familiar but I just cant pinpoint what it is. Not too terribly bitter and has a very clean, typical saison yeastiness/phenolics.

Competicity thank you so much for getting me these last 2. It is so very much appreciated.

This beer is about as far out there as you can get and still be beer? It reminds me more of like Chai or Sahti with heavy perfume through the nose and taste mixed with cinnamon and cedar.

After drinking all of ghost in the kettle and now half of Flowers...I cant tell if im drunk, having an allergic reaction or high from all the mystery concoctions/tinctures thats in these. I feel strange

I shouldn't of been so negative. I swung by a local bottle shop this afternoon and the manager remembered me asking about Fantomes and offered what was available to order from his distributor. Here we go...

Man, having a birthday and family commitments sure got me derailed from this mission...
So now im double fisting to try and play catch up.

If I didnt know any better, id say these 2 were the same beer but the Sorachi version got an addition of oranges/grapefruit and Simcoe got dirty feet and cheese. Do yourself a favor and dont double fist these like me (or do *high five*) and you might really like Simcoe for what it is. But when held next to Sorachi, man Sorachi steals the show.

I bought a couple bottles of Hiver recently that say “Lot 3N 2 17 best by end 2020” on the label. Has anyone kept up enough with Hiver batches to know if this is in fact 2017 batch or if others say the same? What’s on the labels from the batch Etre sold late last year?

I’ll check a bit later, what color cap?

Yep, that’s a 2017, just checked

Yay or nay on opening today? It'd be my first magic and seems appropriate.

Courtesy of Pneill316 cuz he is a really awesome guy
Not sure if all Magic ghostys are created equally but I loved the OG batch fresh out the gate and with every passing year it got progressively harder to stomach as it got increasily tannic and bitter almost like the (tea?) or other added mysteries got way over-powering.

If you never had it before, now is go time.

if anyone has some of the white caps lying around, let me know. Going to start work on using them for a barrel top for my basement bar.

I might be able to help you out if I didnt already throw it out. I had a bag filled somewhere. I was saving them to possibly create a bar top with them but seeing as though thats a couple years out, ill have plenty of time save up more

Derailing again from operation hit 100 tomes because this is necessary today.

Man I really dug this bottle. I'm not eloquent at all but a buddy and I both remarked that it was our favorite Fantome in a while. If anyone in Denver, CO follows this thread you better snatch them up before I get back and buy them all.

interesting, no savory notes? I get the stereotypical dill with sorachi
Yeah, by peoples descriptions I would think the Sorachi sounds a lot like Simcoe. Good Simcoe beers are always super pineapple/orange heavy to me. Sorachi is always lemon pledge, dill and unpleasant herbal notes to me. Wouldn't be surprised if they were mislabeled.

Not specifically from the Sorachi. I wasn't expecting there to be so much tropical pineapple juice characteristics from the hops. There was herbal notes from the base saison, and maybe some of those dill characteristics got wrapped up in the base?
