Checking in on this guy after a year or two

Opened with a very slight pop and no gushing. Big hit of mango and tropical fruit salad with an herbal note, a little bit dusty as well. Enjoyable, not too sweet, but more carb would have done wonders.

Drank a La Dalmentine labeled "best before end 2022 et lot 3j a 8" last night. Straight lime juice and black pepper. Especially in the aroma, like you're at the beach and adding limes to the bottle. It just showed up on shelves in my area so be on the lookout, highly recommended.

Pretty good description of it

Grapefruit Fizzy Wow!!! I’m glad I bought 14 of them!!!
When Blanche is “on” its one of my favorite beers.

In typical Dany fashion, there are different “versions” of it. Bottles prior to 2010 were predominantly lemony/limey with their citrus character and had a distinct residual wheat/cereal sweetness. Bottles from 2015/16 were straight grapefruit zest with hints of house character and brett. Then the 2017/18 version in addition to the “Blanchot” were a drastic step away from the blanches I loved with increased bitterness and focus on yeasty phenolics. I skipped on buying any of the recent Blanche as I felt burnt by buying too many Blanchot and Blanche from the last releases.

If anyone bought extras of this newest drop and wants to do a Fantome for Fantome exchange for the last 2 releases that are more dry/bitter/yeasty, im your huckleberry.

Yeah, by peoples descriptions I would think the Sorachi sounds a lot like Simcoe. Good Simcoe beers are always super pineapple/orange heavy to me. Sorachi is always lemon pledge, dill and unpleasant herbal notes to me. Wouldn't be surprised if they were mislabeled.

Not specifically from the Sorachi. I wasn't expecting there to be so much tropical pineapple juice characteristics from the hops. There was herbal notes from the base saison, and maybe some of those dill characteristics got wrapped up in the base?

Pretty confident this particular bottle is labeled correctly, I'm getting whisps of dill. But yeah aroma is dank pineapple.

sorachi's never been like that for me. i guess different palettes and whatnot.

same

I get pissy notes from simcoe though from time to time which is why i thought it was a mixup.

im too far removed from the homebrewing game anymore to know or care enough but i remember there being a huge difference between sorachi and sorachi “ace” hops. but i guess the same argument could be made for any hop varetal based on variation from one season/growing conditions to the next, place of origin and how fresh the hops actually are that you are using and what their storage conditions were like prior to getting into the beer in question

but more to the topic at hand, i was overall pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed these fantome hop creations and im looking forward to trying amarillo.

This. So much this. Love these variations/experiments.

Amarillo popped up on Etre like 2 days after I shipped a massive box, so I’ll probably miss that beer... unless it sticks around for a few months.

This is probably out of line, but as I was driving to work yesterday I thought, "what about if I just ordered a big bag of hops and had it mailed to Fantome?" Would they be used? If so would it be advertised? Or would the box be rejected and sent back to shipper? :p

The trick would be to add some shrooms to the package!

Bet it would be accepted if the package also contained some Coca Cola!
