HI all -

finished a batch of a IIPA. Tested first bottle after two weeks of carbonating. Very pleased with the results.

The flavor is amazing. a deep, citrus pineapple. Problem is - no aroma

Hop schedule:
0.5 oz Chinook FWH
2.0 oz Cascade @ 5

Hop Stand (40 min @ 185)
1.5 oz Citra
1.0 oz Chinook
1.0 oz Cascade

Dry Hop – 5 days
1.5 oz Citra
1.0 oz Chinook
1.0 oz Cascade

Any thoughts suggestions? How do I make it smell like it tastes?

It can be many things. Which water did you use? What was the grain bill?

In any case, if this is a 5 gallon batch i would aim for a 5oz dry hop addition if you like that strong west coast hop aroma.

grain bill was 7 lb pearl, 7 lb gp, .75 lb 40l
.
water profile was local water with Ward LAbs water report and Bru'n spread sheet to achieve 130ppm sulfate and a 3.5:1 Sulfate to Chloride ratio

Way more dry hops. Also maybe slightly higher carbonation since that's what actually moves the aroma out of the glass and up to your nose.

Might also want to get some hops on there at flameout. I find I get a lot more smells at flameout.

Before I started dry hopping and doing late boils, I did have more aroma from my beers. A lot of the hops were late boil - like in the last 10 min.

I imagine that a combination of flame out and more dry hop will get me there. should add a little complexity to the hop flavor as well.
