So I am going to be doing my first all-grain and am going to replicate one of my recipes that is extract, what grains will give me the same profile as 6.6 pounds of Muntons Amber LME?Thanks!

Approximately 8lbs of 2-row malt, there are many calculators on the net. Just google lme to grain calculator.

I guess what I ment to say was why type of grains and specialty grains are equivalent to amber LME

Amber LME would be impossible to accurately convert. There is certainly base malt, but also some crystal malt and maybe something else (Munich malt?).

You could probably guess, but you'd need the whole recipe to look at to see what the amber LME provides.

For you recipe, the 2-row will replace the extract, all other specialty grains will stay the same.

That's not so. Since amber LME has multiple ingredients (no extract I know is 100% base malt anyway, but amber is even less so), you can't just sub base malt. There is crystal malt, some two-row (maybe English, depending on the brand), and possible some Munich malt included in amber extract.

Ok, Im going to stop giving advice, Yoop keeps correcting me....LOL! Guess we both learn on the way but I don;t like giving out bum scoop, thanks Yoop. Oops I rhymed.

It's all good, I didn't realize the amount was different, I guess I'll just have to mess with it, my extract recipe is here if anyone is interested, turned out amazing

1 lb crystal malt 60
.5 carahell caramunich 1
1 cara ambr
6.6 lme amber
1oz crystal hop
1oz hallertauer
Wlp 005

If you know (or can guess) what the color was in SRM you can use software like hopville.com's Beer Calculus or Beersmith to get close with crystal malts. That would be where I would start.

If there's already 2.5 lbs of various crystal malts in there, I'd just sub in 8 lbs of Maris Otter for the amber LME and call it a day...
