I have just mashed and cubed(no chill) a baltic porter sg 1.074
Ran out of exract to make a starter.
So I have decided to brew a beer kit from supermarket as a starter.
I havent added any sugar just the can up 13liter sg 1.037 are fermenting at 16c just above recomended range for the yeast.
Does this sound viable as a starter.?

Absolutely. If it is an all malt wort around 1.040 then it is easy pickings for the yeast. Often times if I am doing a really big beer I will brew up a small "table" beer just like what you are doing so as to not waste resources.

I thought this was a good idea and I get a cheap beer for free fingers crossed it tastes ok. Not to estery. Might do this as standard procedure for all high gravities if it workes out.
