extract kit addtions

looking over the instrutions for my next brew which will be a dark cheery stout and read that the cheery flavor comes from adding cheery extract to the bottling bucket . started to thing that i will be bottling a porter in the next few days and thought about adding some mexican vanilla to it ,So my question is would i just add the extract to the bucket or is there some other way that this should be done thanks in addvance
