Fairly new brewer here, but hopelessly obsessed with the hobby. I’ve brewed a couple batches so far and continue to learn about process, experimentation, and brew science.

In a recent episode of Brülosophy I heard it mentioned that some people attempting to clone Tree House will drop the post-boil wort temperature to the mid-130’s (F) and let the hops whirlpool for an extended period of time (1 hour+). I’ve only done whirlpools in the 170’s (F) and for 15 minutes. Does anyone have any experience trying this, and what were the results?

I haven't seen it.

In my NEIPAs I've been doing 2 hopstand/whirlpool additions at different temps:
10' at 170F and 30' at 150F.
I like the results.
But I've been thinking about going lower on both temps and extending the times.

Maybe something like this:
30' and 150F and 60'-90' at 130F?

I’d ask what you think extended times will get you or crazy low temps for that matter. Highly highly doubt Treehouse is doing any sort of crazy low whirlpool temps. On their new crazy high end system they might have the ability to cool hopped wort to those temps before adding hops in the whirlpool but on the previous system highly doubt they did as it requires a very specific apparatus.

A whole lot of crazy all up in there ;)

fwiw, I've settled on 150°F WP for 30 minutes plus the remaining chill time to pitch temperature (another ~15 minutes) for my neipa last kettle additions...

Cheers!

I start my hop stand at about 170 but dont hold for 30 min . I'll let it come down after about 15 min . When is a hop stand technically over ? Imo I think it's when the wort is transferred from kettle to FV . So in essence I start at 170 and end at 90 .
