Hi,

I am a brand new home brewer living in California. I'm originally from Colorado and was spoiled by a strong microbrew presence there. I'd eventually like to try to recreate some of those great beers.

I just got all of the equipment this weekend and I'm looking forward to learning the art of brewing good beer!

We have one heck of a Micro just blocks from my house. It’s darn good ale but man is it expensive. A six pack is over twelve dollars I believe. The only way I can afford it is if I go to the brewery and drink from the bar...so it rarely happens..

Often I don't associate beer with food because one alters the taste of the other too much but this is the only Ale where that's the case...The Brand is called Arcadia Brewing Co and they have a stout (and I would have to go back there to verify the name) that is so thick that it just makes me drool even thinking about it and it is the perfect beer for an Anchovy & Goat Cheese Pizza. The bitterness and body of that beer is one that I haven’t seen since and is one of my personal goals.

There was one picture on the main page that looked a lot like it, really brown thick and kinda like mercury. You can float a penny on this stuff…..so tasty….

that's a desired effect. You just have to figure out what goes well together and alters the flavor the way you want it.

I can sympathize though, I have a hard time with that also. If they're not serving the just right beer with the just right food, I'll just drink water and have my beer after dinner.

Other than the LA area, there are a number of good breweries in California. I mean, even Weed has a good brewery!

But I've never been that way with any food....or beer, Personally I’m like my wife and she says "if I’m going to drink, then drink...If I’m going to eat, then eat...."

In the case of this brew its different, it’s so bold and so bitter that the salt from an Anchovy and Goat Cheese Pizza is almost required because in the Bitterness compliments the Salt…

But I know that I’m not the average drinker because I will throw salt in my beer every now and again in public so that I will stop tasting the food and concentrate on my beer…

It seems to me that one deludes the other…like having burgers and bud light…I can’t stand that…
