I live in Erie, Pa. and I use the city water. I use Potassium Metabisulphite to treat for chlorine. I normally use a water filter for brew water also but I need a new filter. I'm debating on weather I need to spend the money. Anyone have experience brewing with unfiltered Erie water?

I live a bit south of you, but no way in hell would I use city water. How big of batches are you brewing? I pick up 3 gallon packs of spring water from Giant Eagle, but I only brew extract at this point.

I've brewed with city water before and never had a problem. As long as I filtered and used Potassium Metabisulphite. I've not had problems with off flavors as long as I treated for chlorine. That said, I won't drink Erie water unless it's been treated / filtered for chlorine at least! But once it is its not bad. Not good, but not bad.

I grew up 90 mins from Erie = Titusville. My folks and brother still live there and every time I visit I swear I'm going to bring back 10gals of spring water, which comes out of virtually every hill side. Havent yet, but one day. Oh,... I love Millcreek Brewing Co.
