Picked up the DIY 30amp BIAB kit from Electric Brewing Supply over Christmas. I used the 2018 draft wiring diagram to get it wired up. I've cleaned the cables up a bit since the picture below and crimped terminals on and zip-tied things together. Still need to test it out.

Will most likely just pull my drier out from the wall so I can plug it in and make sure everything works. I have a spa panel that I'll be installing in my basement.

The controller will be paired to a 20 gallon Spike kettle with 5500W element.

Finally got everything in place to start it up for the first time! Just heating to 150 tonight and doing the auto-tune. I bought a 10 gallon Spike kettle to use for 5 gallon batches. That will be my primary brew size so auto-tune with that kettle tonight.

Enjoying a Pineapple Sculpin clone extract brew while watching water heater up.

Congrats, looks great. We are going to have about the same setup. I ordered mine a week ago along with a 15 gal Spike Kettle with their 5500 watt element. How long did it take to get your panel? Installing a 30A GFCI breaker today for a garage setup.

I actually visited Electric Brewing Supply just after Christmas and bought the DIY kit they had in stock, so I brought it home that day.

Looks great how does the new pid work? I was looking at these controllers but couldn’t find a lot of info on them.

This is my first time using a PID so I don't have a lot of experience to go from. I only heated from 51F to 150F and then did an auto-tune with the PID. That process was pretty easy and straight forward. I know it doesn't have as many features a something like the EZBoil (potentiometer adjust for boil and step mashing programming), but it should be just fine for most of what I'll be brewing.

That’s good to hear, I was looking for a simple controller. I was Looking at the EZboil DSPR120 because of its simplicity. Does it come pretty much set up, just have to auto tune? Let us know how it works it would greatly be appreciated!

Cheers

I started wiring up my panel today, what did you guys use the crimp connectors for?

Mine is install and ready for calibration this weekend.

I finally finished wiring mine this weekend. Now all I need to do is add a circuit in my panel hopefully next weekend.

Question for all Electric brewing supply 30 amp PID BIAB element owners. I planned on running my system with the 6500 W Honda generator, after firing mine up and doing the initial set up which was successful, until I turn the element on and it bogs the power down to almost kill the generator and clicks on and off. This is all in manual mode.. I am assuming that my generator doesn’t quite have the power for the 5500 W element? All input appreciated, thanks guys!

That's exactly what I'd expect a gen to do. You're switching back and forth between zero load and almost max load over and over and generators are not really designed to deal with that kind of load instability. It's kind of like a Rube Goldberg brewing machine. If you're going to burn fuel to brew, use propane and a flame under the kettle.
