I changed a few a things in my mash for last 3 batchs. As expected, my efficiency changed but it went up not down. Here's the details
I haven't changed any of my equipment or my grind. I was batch sparging with a mash out step at 168 for 10 mins. Then I would drain the tun and batch sparge at 168. I would stir at each step.
Now, to save a little time and trouble, I don't mash out. After the mash I drain the tun. Then I batch sprage with all water that I would have used for the mash out and the sparge. I still stir wait 2 min and drain per normal.
I thought this would make my eff go down a point or two but instead it went up.
My eff was 85% before +/- 0.5%. The last 3 batches my eff is 88.8, 88.5, and 88.7%.
Why would it go up?
