Does anyone have experience with a recirculating eBIAB setup with the re-circulation port placed on the side of the kettle instead of the lid.

I am looking to build a small batch (2.5 to 3 gallon) system and it seems that re-circulation to the lid has some big disadvantages. In order to stir the mash the pump would have to be shut-off to remove the lid. And it would be difficult to re-circulate if chilling with an immersion chiller.

But with a side inlet the bag gets in the way. Lagrus1776 posted a thread on his system which has a side inlet. And Brew-Boss also has an option on their system with a side inlet and a bag.

The clips on Lagrus1776 system would get in the way of the lid but the bag could maybe be tied around the back like the Brew-Boss system.

Another option might be to have Loc-Line anchored to the outside of the kettle and then flexed up around the kettle edge. A 'notch' in the lid could be drilled for the Loc-Line to enter instead of a hole. Then the lid could be freely removed and the bag could still go around the entire perimeter of the kettle.

Just wondering if anyone else has a setup like this with a side inlet and a bag. Thank.

What I do is leave the bag seam open on the side of the bag for 4-5 inches allowing the bag to neatly fit under the recirc port. The bag is then overlapped over the kettle rim and secured with the drawstring and cord lock around the kettle. No clips and the kettle lid can be installed properly.

Sorry no pics but it works well and is a neat approach to this problem.

Thanks, sounds like that works pretty well. I see that you also sell custom bags. To confirm my understanding of your website, shipping of a bag to Canada would be $10USD?

I use his bags on my brew boss and they’re awesome, fit perfectly

Here is an example of the BIAB bag to accommodate the side port. Bag is left open to accommodate port, drawstring secures bag under the port with the lid remaining functional.

Here are some pictures of my system. I use loc line and then just bend the tubing so it rests on the handle of the kettle. I had an aluminum lid that I drilled out a notch.

And yes that is a wilserbrewer bag!
