I have been thinking of going electric for a while and I could use some help with a couple of questions. I should start out by saying I have no electrical knowledge so any advice you have is appreciated.

I'm planning to start with out any automation

I'm thinking I will go with the 5500 watt high density element at 240V (or 220v). I talked to an electrician and he was saying I shouldnt have any problems hooking up the outlet.

Could I just wire a switch so this will just be on/off?

I'm thinking of using a weldless element, what is the easiest way to make an enclosure for the wiring and ground connections?

What do I need for GFI?

Hi Kilian,
So, with a 5500 element, you will need a 30amp circuit. Dryer circuit (if you have one and if it is electric) is typically 30 amp, 240V. You can either (1) install 30 amp GFCI breaker for the circuit or (2) a 30 amp GFCI whip. Ah hell, just go here for more details:
