Just got a PID off of eBay. Anyone know what size the threads on these things are? I have seen a drawing that shows 5.9mm from thread-tip to thread-tip. Maybe an M-6?

Any luck getting these into a female 1/2" NPT? I am thinking I will have to machine my own?

Thanks,
Paul

I don't know what you bought, but I have thermocouples with 1/4" MPT from Auber Instruments. Are you sure they are not 1/4" ?

Lowes sells a 1/4" FPT to 1/2" MPT brass adapter that works perfectly with this and a normal 1/2" FPT thread.

Definitely smaller than that. I had assumed that they would be 1/4, so I bought a 1/2 MPT to 1/4 FPT bushing/insert and the thermocouple just floats in there, no thread contact at all.

In addition, it doesnt look like it has a taper at all, just straight threads, so it is probably not NPT at all. I bought a brass 1/2" MPT stopper and will re-drill and tap it once I figure out what it is.

Thanks!

The one that I have is 1/4 - 20. I brazed a stainless nut to the output of my herms coil to attach it.

It was 1/4-20. Threads looked bigger than that I guess, and I wasnt expecting it for something that was plumbing-related.

I just drilled and tapped a 1/2 NPT brass plug that I can install in my RIMS.

Thanks guys.
