We've been using a lot of Safale 05 lately and it always seems like we need slightly more than one package so rather than under pitching we just rehydrate two even though at the most we probably only needed 1.25. Not to be a cheap ass but is it advisable/possible to temporarily store a half a package of dry yeast? If so what's the best way.

Thanks!

Yes, you can store a partial pack. Gently squeeze the air out of it and use tape to seal the package. Moisture needs to be kept out for the longest storage life. Keep the partial and unopened packages in the frig.

Fermentis site advises the yeast should be used within seven days.

I have used partials one to three months later without noticing any undesireable effects. I usually end up overpitching when I have a partial just not to have it around to long.
