What and where is this Pearly's you speak of??? I've often thought about going to STA and asking them for some yeast, never done it ...I kinda think itd seem almost rude...maybe itd be an act of flattery. idk.
I really think "we" need a LHBS . The way Huntsville is booming , and the local breweries popping up, I think it could handle one. I know Id be there almost every time we go to H'ville, which is like almost every day .
...
You’d think that but the best example of a LHBS was Wish You Were Beer and they got out of the business of homebrew supplies. They didn’t last long and I’m not sure why. You could go in and pick your ingredients and have a beer from the wall of taps. Small but friendly and convenient.
Pearly’s is on Governors very near the Clinton/Governors ‘Y’. It’s next to a Metro PCS. It’s more of a health food store but they have a surprising selection. I try to buy from them to keep them in business. Store hrs are 10-5 M-F and 10-2 Sat. Closed Sun. They don’t have a lot but you can find a couple different 10# sacks of base malt, a fairly good selection of 1# bags of ‘character’ malts, dried yeast, and pellet hops. They don’t refrigerate hops or yeast. They also have some cleaning supplies and Whirlfloc, yeast nutrient, etc. Nothing elaborate but you can get the basics for a batch of Pale Ale, Pilsner, or Bitter, etc.
Just around the corner on Clinton you have four breweries: STA, Yellowhammer, Outerspace (or something), and Salty Nut. Keith at Yellowhammer and the Salty Nut guys have both offered me a pitch but I haven’t taken them up on it. Great guys.
I hung up a thermometer in the under the house part of the basement. Temp was 71, only 3 degrees cooler than where i ferment now. Not worth moving in there. Ill try the kveik
You need a fridge.
