dry malt extract in yeast starters

is it possible to use something else in yeast starter then dry malt extract?

Some people have reported success using Malta Goya since it's basically unfermented beer although I haven't tried it yet

I've heard of the Malta Goya as well, but thinking DME is probably cheaper. Some guys just freeze some wort to have on hand whenever needed. I've read you shouldn't use regular table sugar
