Query: I recently dry hopped for the first time and when I went to bottle the beer I noticed a sheen on the surface of my beer. Was I right in assuming that this was oils from the dry hopping? If so, how does the oil distribute into the bottled beer? Is it relatively even?

I'm not worried, just curious.

Yes, it is from dry hopping. I'm not sure how the oil makes its way into the beer, but I do know that it all works out in the end :)

Mojo and Revvy are sounding a bit like BP CEO Tony Hayward...the oil slick is a "minor" disaster...don't worry about it. ;)

Robots and tankers are on the way to take your beer and transport it to my mouth.

Don't worry Cortex...his boats/robots will only be able to retrieve about 10% of your beer no matter how much he says he's actually recovering.

Now that I've successfully hijacked your thread and turned it into a running joke... I just made my first IPA, too. I had the same sheen and it came out great. So great in fact that I brought in a sixer to work today and am "assigning" all of the guys here at work to take it home and give me some feedback on it tomorrow.

Heh, thanks for the replies guys. I wasn't too worried about the beer because even flat and 2 weeks old, it still was pretty tasty, so I knew nothing could have gone too wrong :)

Now I just have to wait 3 weeks for it to carb up fully...

I reject your reality and substitute my own!

Not only will my robotankers be able to retrieve up to 90% of his beer, they will also leave naked ladies, a pleasant fragrance, and absolutely no environmental destruction in their wake.
