I'm doing another Amber Ale and want to dry hop for more aroma.
I have my own hops growing and should be ready to pick in 2 or 3 weeks.
Is there anything that needs to be done with them to eliminate the possibility of spoiling the beer from wild yeasts or something like that?

Also, I usually don't do a secondary when fermenting. But I have read that you add hops for dry hopping in the secondary. Is this necessary?
Thanks :)

Hops are fairly antimicrobial. No special steps before adding to beer (which already has some alcohol in it too prevent contamination)

I add dry hops to primary all the time. No negative effects.

It is possible but not typical. The one time I used homegrown hops for dryhopping is the only time I've ever gotten an infection and a funky sour IIPA (now I save homegrown for the boil only).

Can you achieve similar results by maybe adding more hops in your final addition of the boil?
