Drinking beer out of frozen mug

I've searched around on this but can't seem to find any discussion matching the question. Many folks like to keep frozen mugs and drink their beer out of frozen mugs. I heard somewhere that a frozen mug is bad for the beer drinking experience and am wondering if anyone has any knowledge on whether this is true and if so how?

The only thing I could think of is perhaps it's a bad idea for stouts, porters and other ales which taste a little better(to me at least) at higher temperatures that ice cold. :mug:

Bingo! :mug: When it's 100 degrees outside, though, I can see how it would maybe help keep your brew chilled a little longer...
 
The frosty mug goes alongside Frost Brewed in tehrocky Mountains, Cold brewed (Miller Lite) BMC is served ice cold because it has no flavor and people that drink that kind of beer have been told beer should be drank ice cold.

If you drink a liquid that cold you are numbing your taste buds and ruining the taste experience. I drink everything ~40 and up. basically untill it doesn't feel "cold" on my tongue. It is nice to start out with a somewhat cold beer and drink it slowly. You will notice the flavor changing dramatically as it warms.
 
As I understand it, cold masks flavors similar to how carbonation does. So if your beer is too cold, your missing out on some of the tasty goodness you would otherwise detect if it were a bit warmer. Scratch that if it's crappy beer, which should be served as near to frozen as possible.
 
See that's what I thought. Baton Rouge has been exploding with the concept of "get 50+ beers on tap and another 200+ on bottle and you've got a winner bar" which has really worked out nicely for beer lovers such has myself. Some of the bartenders are getting really educated. The bartender asked me if I wanted a room temperature glass and I told him to give it to me cold because it was a pilsner. I would think you'd want a pils real cold for as long as possible. He told me it's best to always go room temp.

Awesome for you to have an educated BarTender. Room Temp always for the win.
 
I usually keep a couple glasses cold in the fridge/freezer. It helps when I've got a lot of people over and I'm not drinking beer very quickly (I talk a lot) to just keep it cooler longer. But I do have to agree, somewhere in the ~40-50 degree range brings out the majesty of the brew!
 
But when the mountains turn blue, you know your beer is as cold as the Rockies...

Unless its a pale ale or Weizen, I usually warm my mug in hot water. My fridge is a little too cold for beer, so a warm mug helps bring up the temperature faster.
 
Only way I'd do a frozen mug is if my homebrew was not in a cooler or some thing. A cold mug, warm homebrew, that should chill it just enough
 
In my opinion there is nothing worng with having some frozen glassware ready to go. Sometimes a really cold beer just tastes so good, especially when it is 95+ around here.
 
I also keep a couple of mugs in the freezer and break them out for my wheat beer whicj=h is usually consumed when im doing yard work as its a light drinker and Im smoking hot and the combo just cools me off. My damn riding tractor just wont hold the big mug in the can holder though! :( :)!
 
No frosted glasses for me. They don't seem to have that much difference in keeping the beer cold....but there's so much condensation. I do like ordering a 1L Dos Equis at Mexican restaurants here....sometimes the glasses are frosted, and sometimes not. When it's frosted, I have to go through several napkins so that my table isn't a small pool of water!
