So normally I do nearly a full boil (start with 4.75 gallons) but my pipeline needs a serious boost before football season starts in little over a month. Thinking of doing something similar to sterling gold.

10lb of extra light dme
1lb crystal 15
.5lb carapils
1oz Cascade 90 fwh
1oz Sterling 20min
Then spices at 10

Would be a 4.75 boil half the dme proly added around 15 min to go to get better hop utilization

Then split the wort into two buckets and top them up to 5.5, what u guys think bad idea?

I say go for it, but I have a terrible time getting the boil to come back after more than 3 lbs ME addition late. I would dump more in pre-boil and try not to worry about color. It will be 50% diluted after all.
