Just cooked up a Witbier kit that has orange peel and coriander. Should I avoid transferring them into the primary, or should they stay?

I did a spice ale that had orange peel in it and I transferred it to primary. When I went to rack the beer to my bottling bucket the orange peel kept clogging my siphon.

I recommend not transferring orange peel to primary.

Just got done putting my Whitbier in the primary, I strained the Wort as it went into the primary.

Just made a Belgian wheat two weeks ago and I had the same question. I didn't have any muslin bags at the time, besides the one for the grains, so the only option I had was to put them directly in the boil. I tried the whirlpool method before racking to primary and that didn't work so I just siphoned as much wort as I could into the primary while trying to avoid sucking up any orange peel. I will be bottling it this week so hopefully everything tastes good. Next time I will definitely have extra steeping bags accessible.

I'm sure you're going to get different answers here depending on personal taste. I made one a couple months ago and let the peel go into my fermenter. My wife and I both feel like the beer is a little bitter, as if you were actually eating a bit of the peel itself when you drink it. I think next time I'll leave it out.

I was told by my LBHS that putting oranges and lemons in the primary can cause the beer to taste somewhat like a "cleaning agent". Don't know how true that is.

We just bottled a Belgian White, and when we did the boil, we put our orange peel and coriander in muslin bags. We let it go with the boil for around 20-25 minutes, then simply removed them.

I just tasted a bottle (still green, only a week in), but I'm not detecting a very strong flavor from the spices. But then, we also only used half an ounce of each, which is more likely the reason. That or it needs to age more.

Well, my brew buddy got impatient and dumped it all into the primary, so we stuck with it in. I guess I will remove the peels when racking to my secondary, but I don't know if this will do anything.

i put everything in my primary when i made a belgian white. tastes great. no issues with plugging up siphon either. maybe because it all sank to the bottom

With the Belgian whit, I read numerous times to leave it in the primary the whole time, it is supposed to look cloudy looking.

Good point. I just hope they don't contribute to an unwanted bitter taste as somebody mentioned above, which is why I was considering a secondary.
