I was watching Moonshiners and two of the boys Josh and Bill were making strawberry brandy. When the boys bucket filled up with the liquor it was blue. The boys never discovers why it turned blue and the showe did not explain it either. I know we can't discuss how to make moonshine and that is not my intention. I just want to know why their stuff came out blue. It's like a cliff hanger that never gets solved lol

I've wandered the same thing. Love that show too. Anyone got an answer?

Never watched it. I live in a town filled with one toothed in-bred bastards, work with a bunch of'um too. Can't figure out why anyone would wanna watch'um on TV.:off:

I wonder if like many shows on Discovery if the actual act is faked?

I mean isnt Moonshining still illegal? I doubt they would show them actually committing crime by making real moonshine on the show, that would be the stupidest thing ever in regards to getting convicted.

Not for nothing, if the same people are being followed by camera people to top secret places, and the Fire chief is show making and distributing moonshine on national TV, but no one else knows but us...lol...I think that it's safe to say that it is fake.

Yep, gotta be fake; however, they are doing nothing wrong from a brewing/distilling standpoint if they don't add yeast! They say possession of a still is a crime so not sure how they get around this.

Undesirable copper compounds from several possible sources. Could be a high pH in the mash/wash, dirty or not properly cleaned equipment or running too much/too fast.

Before using new or old copper tubing/pipe it should be cleaned. Best way for the use they put it to is by first running a batch of vinegar through the system to clean out oxidized or corroded residue.

We do the same (acid wash) when we clean our copper wort chillers that have been sitting around unused for a while.

I know I wouldn't drink anything those two had their hands on. They are both walking disasters and should stick to their day jobs.

Whether it's real or fake I still love the show lol. I'm sure there is some kind of loop hole that would allow these guys to make their product. Also here in Ohio, I believe they passed a law where you can make up to a certain amount of shine I think it may be a gallon or so. (If you live in Oho and are thinking about making it you may want to double check the amount and any regulations.) I would never make shine because I'm to much of a girl to be able to drink the stuff. I also saw on a later show that Tim ended up making a batch that was a darker blue because Chico cooked the mash at 190 degrees. Either way I love the show and I'm looking forward to the new episode tonight.

Hack and poseur whores making money off urban rubes is all.

The shows can be fun but rest assured they are scripted and staged. Tim served time in Federal prison for moonshining some years ago and was shown on an old History Channel documentary about the topic. In short he is both a known quantity and a documented felon so the thought that he was actually tooling around the hills of VA making shine for the filming of the series is just not believable.

Re any state law in Ohio allowing you to make a limited amount of liquor, that's not true either, sorry. It all starts at the top as boscobeans has posted. :mug:

I remember that history channel show. First time I saw the show and saw Tim I knew it was fake. Doesn't stop me from watching it and laughing.
