Dirty glass carboy

I have a glass carboy that has been in my basement for at least 20 years. Does anyone have any ideas how to clean it and get 20 years of dust and grime out of it. Or should I just leave it alone, I would hate to ruin a good batch because of a bad carboy.

Fill w/warm water and oxyclean. Allow to soak. Drain liquid. Lather, rinse, repeat until clean. Sanitize w/starsan or iodophor

Thanks. We have been using oxyclean for years. I didnt think about using it on glass.

I had the same scenario, found a 20+ year old 6.5 gallons carboy in the parents basement. I filled it with soapy hot water and let it sit for 24 hours, dumped it, filled it back up half way and went at it with a carboy brush. Everything came out no problem, washed it again after that then filled it with hot water and sanitizer, another long sitting, then dumped it.

Been making kick ass beer ever since!

You can fill it with cold water, add a few ounces of bleach, soak overnight, then rinse and that's it.
