My stainless fermenter has no volume markings. I'm considering a dipstick to determine how much wort was transferred to it. I was thinking of using a stainless rod, but how would I mark the graduations in a sanitary manner?

Reading a liquid level on stainless might be difficult, maybe I am the wrong track, and another material/form would be better?

Just weigh it. Record your empty weight, fill your fermenter, tare out the fermenter weight, then calculate your volume based off the weight of the wort. No fiddling around with vectors for infection .

Both good ideas, but probably not in my application.

Fermenter is a heavy 15g conical on a mobile base, with an 8" TC port for access.
Should have mentioned this in the OP, sorry.

I made a dipstick for my 15 gallon conical. It's a piece of 1/8" diameter welding rod with a dimple pressed into it at every gallon. It's bent at the top so it hangs from the rim of the fermenter and works awesome. It's easy to make and very easy to use.
