I recently purchased some liquid malt extract from my local homebrew store. It was marked as "golden". I don't know exactly which brand this is, or else I could look my question up myself. On many homebrew sites such as brewersfriend.com, I seen no reference to a "golden" liquid malt extract, but there is one to a "light" extract. I know Briess sells a "golden light" extract, and I was curious if the "light" and the "golden" extracts could be one and the same. Does anyone know about this?

the difference is the composition of the grains that make them up. All LMEs are well modified. they are reasonably interchangeable. if you arent concerned about staying with in style guidelines, use whatever you want. Ive made a "pale" ale with dark LME before, because i had it on hand. it tasted great.

a light light is about 99% two row% 1% carapils, according to Briess website.
a golden light is 95% pilsen malt and 1% carapils.
