Used brewers friend to construct my recipe it was a partial mash with 5.5 gallons going in the fermenter and around 70% efficiency
Expected OG was 1.075
So the mini mash was 4lbs of flaked wheat and 8oz of 2 row and 8oz of carmel for the conversion
That stepped in a BIAB for 30 mins at 155-160
Then I added 6.9 lbs of light pilsen LME and boiled for a hour, then topped of the batch to reach 5.5 gallons in the fermenter and stired it very well
Took gravity and only got 1.050
Not sure what happened other then maybe the efficiency was a lot lower but with extract I thought efficiency waa around 70 - 80
I'm fermenting with omega labs tropical ipa and my IBU are gonna be around 80 so im worried with it being lower ABV it might be to bitter

8 ozs. of 2-row was not nearly enough to convert 4 lbs. of flaked wheat.

Yea now i realize that :( The guy at the home brew store assured me it was enough and I'm still learning so I took his word for it.

Kinda upset about it lol

So I'm guessing it was pointless to add the flaked wheat?

You can always boil up some more DME, cool, then pitch to the fermenter to get those 25pts back

Curious from a brewing science perspective: in such a situation, would one expect the wort to be loaded with unconverted starches?
And could something like glucoamylase help?

Cheers!
