While I know this comment is half serious, this is an interesting thought. Is DLD 'lame' now? I would argue that it isn't necessarily at that level, but folks here have been going for so long and dealing with so many different good/bad things about DLD, and realized that the best part of the event was sharing bottles with one another, that the whole 'pay 200 bucks for 4 bottles you won't like and a variant you've probably had before' isn't as appealing as it used to be.

Yeah I wouldn't begrudge anyone who looked at that whole messy, sweaty package and said "Nah no thanks."

I just get/have gotten the impression that the live-n-let-live vibe on this doesn't entirely roll both ways.

All the wine variants I tried this year were quite good. Fresh *******, on the other hand, was disgustingly sweet. And I usually have no problem with the sweeter stuff.

After drinking delicious sours most of the day, Marshmallow Handie was an unpleasant diabeetus-y shock to the palate.

Anyone else catch the DB VSOJ Cherry Rye over at the Necron tent? Hadn’t tried it before. Hot damn.

Yes and it was absolutely glorious. Other draft highlights were Monster Tones and Spaceforce, both of which were god tier. I think spaceforce was the best variant I’ve ever tried and it was great to try so many different ones on tap. I thought handjee was damn good too but apparently that’s an unpopular opinion now :p

See, it's funny because now DLD is lame on TalkBeer.

I'm still waiting for mead's turn.
I don't think it's lame but it loses a lot of appeal without the compound. I think I spent 15 minutes inside the fest last year if you don't count the wait for bottles. It's still a great fest but we have to find different reasons to go.

And I hate change.

Handjee tasted the same as it ever does, to me.

I saw you in line I think for Spaceforce. Wasn't sure it was you at the time. Those variant lines were brutal until 6 or so when ChemTrail was available for an hour and Handjee only had a 5 minute wait

Meh, DLD is like everything in life, it's what you make of it. Took two years off from going and came back this year and was pleasantly surprised by the improvements all around. When we arrived at around 8am there was a huge line to get in, but then we were told that those people were drinking down their stash since they were stirctly enforcing the Oz limit. After that walked right in to the holding pen and began sharing beers with strangers.

Only really waited in one line all day and that was to try chemtrail, but I wasn't trying to check out every variant. Walked right in and grabbed my alottment with no line up at all and then circled around the guest tap areas and left mid afternoon.

I really enjoy DLD, but maybe I am one of the few that enjoy regular DL when it's fresh so am happy to have a nice stash of them. However, I definitely wouldn't make this a regular trip if it weren't for it's proximity to Chicago. Anytime I have an excuse to stuff myself with pequods and then set up camp at Local Option I'm in! But if DLD was in the middle of nowhere I'd have a hard time justifying the trip, would rather just spend the time and cash for another vermont run!

My last DLD was 2016, I think? The one where Big Freedia headlined and it poured all day. My main reason for staying away is the feeling that I have to protect my stuff at all times while inside the event. Every year since, I dunno, 2012, I've heard stories from friends that have gone and got something stolen from their bag, their whole bag stolen, or their car broken into.

DLD is a great excuse to meet up with old friends and share fun beers, but the cost is getting so high now that FFF realized they need to force people to buy reg DL and the secondary value of BADL's are apparently too compelling for some people not to snatch bottles that aren't being closely guarded. It's a tough sell for me now.

#WellActually It was 2015 because that was my last DLD as well.

Yeah that was an issue this year. I never made it to see the bands because I was always the designated "guard our table and all of our stuff" guy. I felt tethered to that damn table. Anytime 2 people went to the draft tent randoms would sit down at our table, which I am fine with if they make conversation and ask for a seat, but people would just plop down, ignore us and one even stole a couple of our unopened bottle share bottles. Or start taking pours without making any conversation.

I hate to give any credit to Florida, America's Insane Penis, but maybe CCB perfected the release party with Huna Day? Pick your bottles up while sober, stow them as necessary and then go to the party at a 2nd location.

They seriously need to implement this. It's really sad that theft is so rampant at that event. People ******* suck.

Also, just remembered this funny story from DLD. Dude walks up to our table with a Une Anne Le Seul Aronia and tells me it is a rare beer from Florida his wife got him. I accepted his pour and then pointed out the Niles, IL on the label and told him he could go visit the brewery if he wanted. I also told him they have a membership program with more limited bottles, and he then assured me this beer had to be one of those.

Then he told me about how he had some rare Angry Chair draft only beers that his wife put into tupperwares for him when she was down there. He was sorry to say he had already drank them though.

I just nodded.

One of my buddies sent me some "interesting" pics from DLD.

This looks like some sort of fight, but apparently they were just moshing really awkwardly and slowly:

Same chick that looks like she's trying to throw a punch in that pic later decided to drop her pants and take a piss out in the open, despite being right next to the port-a-potties and there supposedly being no line and several empty ones at the time:

(spoiler tags even though there's nothing more visible than a partially obscured bare ass)

Apparently shortly after this she was arrested or something.

That doesn't sound like fun. At all.

There was some great videos posted on the Dark Lord Day Facebook group of that couple "moshing", it was entertaining and disturbing at the same time.

People were claiming she took a **** instead of peeing. She later admitted to urinating in public because of a bladder condition and that she did end up in jail and was bailed out. The dude with her proposed at DLD so he is her fiance now.

She claimed to work at Binny's Lakeview so people started sending pics/video to Binnys to attempt to get her fired. Apparently they responded saying she had already left that job a short while ago but she didn't reflect their values etc etc...

Anyway, people were kinda harassing her on that Facebook group so the admins deleted everything and banned discussion of her going forward.

I should have saved the videos though.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Beer Facebook in a nutshell.

I downloaded two "fb video saving" plugins for chrome and sadly neither would work. It sucks that the old mobile link right click save as "bug" has been patched
