I have a ton of dandelions in my front yard. I've heard of dandelion wine but I've never had it. I've also heard of dandelion beer but like the wine I've never have had it. Is it any good? I'm thinking about making a blonde ale or something light but I'm wondering if its worth the time, effort, and beer.

The pic is just a small sample of what i have going on with the dandelions!

Did we just become best friends? I thought about this yesterday and I was just posting about this and I saw your post on the right hand side of my screen... Very weird. I thought about either a very light hopped pale ale or blonde ale with dandelions.

Ha! Small world indeed! It's that time of year I guess.

I was also thinking about a low ibu, very light srm, pale ale or the centennial blonde that's on here. I just have no idea what dandelions taste like in beer.

I also assume you'd "dry hop" with them? I'd think if you boiled them you'd get a funky taste. Maybe whirlpool and also dry hop?

had dandelion wine a few times - father-in-law made it. Rather good. Reminded me of a sort of chardonnay with a subtle bitterness in the background - you could just barely tell it was dandelions.

Maybe you should give those yellow babies a little food before harvesting, plimp and fatten them a little.

I googled it and found this in a recipe.

1 lb. dandelions: leaves, blossoms, and roots at 60

Thanks for the link!

I wonder what 1 lb of dandelions looks like. Sounds like a lot. I also like the note about how this beer will stain plastic. All I have is plastic so maybe I'll have to get a cheap food-grade bucket and try it in that. I don't care if it stains that.

Still on the fence if I"m going to brew this or not... I'd like to try it before I make the commitment. Maybe I'll just make a 1 gallon batch.

I've had this before, quite tasty
