Hello HBT.
I've been a fan of your site for a few months now. A little about myself first. I am stationed in Germany, and have always wanted to brew beer. What better place to brew and drink really good beer all the time. I've visited the Adech Monastary, Kuchlbauer tower in Abensberg (look that one up), and the Hofbraeuhaus in Munich. A lot to live up to, and really good beer to learn from.
So, after a few purchases, I brewed my first batch a few months ago, a brown porter, and definitely messed up on a few things. I left the hops in the fermenter and turned it into a dark IPA from the tastes. Also, I swirled the krausen back in. Haha. But lessons learned and tomorrow I will be brewing a lawnmower lite. I am learning plenty from HBT, especially about yeast.
My friends at my last duty station told me brewing would be better if I waited until about 50 years old to start. Little did he know.
If anyone has lived in Germany, or still does, I would greatly appreciate information on where to buy ingredients locally in country.
<- This is a really funny emote by the way.
