Damaged Corny!!

Hey.
Anybody ever had a leak at the point where the fixed inlet thread is?

so not the removable post itself but where the fixed male thread goes into the rubber?

I think that is where my leak is on the gas side, is that repairable or is that the end of the keg?!

I'm guessing this isn't a newly acquired keg.
If it's a crack in the stainless it could be fixed by a good TIG welder but it will probably cost as much as buying a good used keg, or more

fwiw, for clarity I always refer to that part of a corny keg as a "riser", specifically a "threaded riser".
If the welding of riser to keg shell is breached a TIG weld would be the sure fix, but it may be possible to silver solder it...

Recycle. I would not recommend patching a pressure vessel. Lose a tank of gas. Lose 5g of beer. Clean out a keezer. Clean 5g of beer off a floor in your house. These are the thoughts that go through my mind (I just tossed a questionable corny).

Jeeze, they're welded together from the factory. A little remedial attention shouldn't pose a huge risk

I didn't say it was a safety hazard.

I didn't either.
It's trivial to test if a breach has been sealed via welding or even silver soldering and neither is all that prone to subsequent failure.
Even if I didn't have the gear and ability I'd find a friend to do it for a six-pack

The old leaking keg. I have been able to purchase or been given a number of Corny kegs in various conditions. I agree that the fix might not be worth it, TIG welding is expensive as it should be as it is very technical and the equipment is expensive.
Here is a product that I have used with good success on a number if kegs Red Epoxy, It is not your typical epoxy as it is heat setting, It was developed for use in the refrigeration business, It is safe for food. You need to follow the directions exactly, Again this is not your typical 5 minute epoxy, but it works Here is a link 12001 RED EPOXY. I get this on amazon for about $20.00 for a large supply.
