Howdy All,

I need a bit of advice from those of you who know a lot about different recipes. I made a mistake when ordering grain from an online supply site and ended up with 2 lbs of milled crystal malt 120 L. I thought I was getting the right degrees L for pale ales and ESBs. Apparently I was way off. So the questions are two:

What can I use my 2 lbs of 120 L Crystal for? (extract w/ spec grains recipes)

and

How long will milled malt stay fresh in a ziplock bag?

Thanks, guys.

120 L crystal is mostly used in stouts and porters.

Milled grain strore in a cool, dry place in a well-sealed container should be good for several weeks, but the fresher the better, of course.

Have a "seal-a-meal" machine laying around to suck out all the nasty air?

Spoilage comes mostly from the items interaction with air. Case in point, pudding. Put it in the fridge and it'll scab over. Place another in the fridge with saran wrap on top and it'll stay creamy. I use the same method when I make/save tuna fish. Even though the container is airtight I still put a saran wrap skin right on the fish. If keeps fresher longer.:D

that pudding and tuna beer sounds awful.
don't listen to HB99...just use grains instead. :D

Have you ever tried his Tunabrau? It's pretty tasty with or without the pudding adjunct.

is it possible to make a dry stout with the crystal 120 L? Or does the sweetness lend itself to the oatmeal/sweet stouts?

OK, my secret's out!!! How else do you think I get that tart flavor in my Hefe Weizens? The secret is salad dressing, not mayo! The banana is naturally from the banana pudding...and it stays creamy to the last drop...:D

It saves time too! You can drink your lunch and dessert at the same time while washing it down with the secret 3rd ingredient - beer !!

I'm a Genie-A$$!!

Freeze it until you can make a porter. AHB's Rogue Mocha Porter clone uses that much. You might consider a mini-mash, as you would get better results if you match the crystal with the same amount of 2-row.
