So, first cyser, after many many successful attempts of cider.

Recipe:

5 gallons juice
ec1118 yeast
15 lbs clove honey
pectin enzyme

My hydrometer is wack, so I couldn't tell what the OG was, I know it was at least 1.10.

It's now 1.010.

I tasted the cyser I used for the hydrometer reading.

Yikes. Cough syrup. It's a month in the fermenter, wanted to put it in carboy, add a gallon of juice to remove any head space, let it sit to mellow for a couple months, then bottle, carb, pasterize and let sit for at least 8 months.

Will this flavor go away? Was my honey that special fake honey from China? Is the cough syrup taste normal? I hope I didn't waste a bunch of money.

Do you mean "clover" honey?

It sounds like it needs a long, long time to age out. You may want to consider putting it in a cool dark place in a carboy, topped up, and revisit it in a few months.

ec1118 especially if done on the warm side will throw some fairly funky tastes.
let it age and see what its like in 6 months.
