Ok this is a busy summer for me as far as homebrewing goes. I've been asked to brew beer for three parties. Two brews for one wedding, and a single brew for a birthday party and BBQ each.

I have my beers planned for the birthday party and wedding.

As for the BBQ, I originally wanted to brew Charlie Papazian's Who's In The Garden Grand Cru recipe. I already have the yeast (Wyeast 3942) on hand. However I have some leftover extract and hops that I was thinking about using in place of what Charlie's recipe calls for. The BBQ will be made up largely of BMC drinkers who don't know jack about beer, so I can get away with a little experimentation.

I wanted some opinions on this idea I had:

Who's In Their Right Mind Belgo-American Ale

Fermentables
6lbs NB Golden Light LME
2lbs Orange Blossom Honey

Hops
.5 oz Cascade @ 60 min
1 oz Cascade @ 15 min
.5 oz Cascade @ 5 min

Yeast
Wyeast 3942

Misc
.75 oz Coriander @ 15 min
.75 oz Coriander @ 5 min
.5 oz Orange Peel @ 5 min

OG: 1.057
IBU: 24.2
SRM: 5

I figured the Gold extract will be a little darker and slightly maltier, but nothing too big of a difference. The major thing is the cascade hops.

Is this worth trying?

Sounds like a potentially very tasty beer. If your target audience, however, consists of non-adventurous BMC types, a spiced homebrew with complex yeast-derived flavors might not be appreciated so much as a simple, unchallenging blonde or cream ale.

I don't care if they don't like it. I'm worried if I will! ;)
