I know a lot of people search craigslist for good buys on brewing equipment. I have set up a couple RSS feeds to update me whenever new posts containing key words pop up. I am currently searching for “Home brewing,” “Sanyo Fridge,” “Carboy,” and “keg.”

I am always trying to get some more equipment, and the feeds have worked well, but I find that my keywords need to be updated for better results. Often I’ll search using slightly different terms and items will show up that were not included in my feed. If I use common words like beer I get a lot of things not related to home brewing. So my question to you is what key words you guys use when you search craigslist for home brewing equipment.

beer comes up with to many results for m RSS feed. And brew brings up all kinds of coffee makers and stuff. Now stainless might be a good one I'll give that a shot.

I do have to say, that the RSS Feed is probably the best invention ever, I get updated within an hour when new brewing stuff is online. It was also very helpful in scoring me tickets to events on quite a few occasions.

Add a few modifiers to your RSS feed, to filter out the coffee hits. Examples would be -coffee, -espresso -drip, etc.

Thanks for the advice, I didn't know what kind of search the site used, and have been having trouble getting one feed to display all the things I might want to see. Any ideas about what they use as an OR operator and whether or not they accept parenthesizes in their searches?

I highly recommend that those who surf CL often for brewing equipment set up an RSS feed so they are updated as soon as new stuff comes up.

An RSS feed is an automatically updating feed from a web page such as craigslist that lets you know when the site has been updated or new information has been posted. I have set up a feed so that any time someone posts a new ad with one of the above key words in it I am notified. It lets me get in contact with people selling stuff within an hour of them posting their ad, and has gotten me some great deals on brewery equipment.

They are very easy to set up and I think everyone should use them, only problem is that the search on CL is not ideal, and it is hard to get it to cram multiple searches into one feed, hence having to search for specific and worthwhile terms.

Go on to craigslist, and type in a search that will help you find what you are looking for. Then once the search returns results, you will see a little RSS link on the bottom of the page. Click on it and add it either to your e-mail or web browser. You can customize the code of the RSS feedso it delivers the results of multiple searches, but I am having troubule figuring that out, how the cl site search operates, so I was looking for some help here in the forum.

I would add -drip for the hookers search also:D

I have taken to searching http://crazedlist.org/ which allows you to search multiple/all craigs lists at once. A little trick to set up, but well worth the effort.
