This would be the first time it was actually sent back to me...I've never had to go through this song and dance before, I normally package everything in its own individual bag to help prevent any sort of leakage. This makes me think that the box was obliterated and I'll be out some money.

Did you accurately list how much the box was worth when filling out the label? I know you can't account for rarity if you sent something like that, but I always max that out just in case.

That's right, I forgot that that's why you use UPS ;)

I think I'm done with UPS after this...this would be the third time I've had broken bottles with them in as many months...the first two were both out to OR and this one was to CT; I have no reason to suspect anything beyond issues with mishandling at the HUB.

Would you still be eligible for reimbursement even though shipping alcohol is against company policy?

I had a previous trader have the ability to do that. They lost the package and he was reimbursed for the value. It wasn't on my end, so I'm not sure what they process was, but he got money back from them(can't remember if it was UPS or FedEx)

All these stories of broken bottles in transit always make me more nervous when I have a package out. Luckily, I haven't had anything break in any of my previous shipments. But I still always worry until the box is delivered and the recipient confirms everything survived. I'd hate to have anything break, especially when it's something that can't be easily replaced.

Let's hope your box that is coming tomorrow is safe and sound.

It should. I've actually only received a broken bottle of beer once. An HBT member that I've traded with a few times decided to surprise me and send two Surly Darknesses. I'm still freakin blown away by his generosity. But, sadly one Darkness didn't survive. It was wrapped well, but I guess the box was just thrown around too much. That really sucked to lose a Darkness. I can only imagine how disappointed he was too.

Update:
Most Wanted:
Alpine
Cascade
Alchemist
Hillstead farm
Logsdon
Tallgrass
Terrapin
Cigar city
Real ale
Kern river

Schilling sent me a Wyoming Pale Ale from Wind River which isn't on seekabrew which was awesome so I'm adding:
Any great beers that are only distributed in one state or not even on seekabrew.

Man, I can't wait until SDCore has his delivery. Constantly watching tracking and just hoping everything makes it ok. Shipping is nerve wracking!

So...out of the nine bottles I sent, four returned unharmed. Apparently, it was my fault that they broke some how, and no money will be refunded.
Awesome.
Once I reship I'll let everybody know exactly what broke, and I can tell you they were, for the most part, tear worthy.

Glad you liked it. Definitely one of my favorite Wyoming beers.

I certainly hope no cheese steaks were harmed in this little debacle...

Damn, that's a kick in the nuts if I ever saw one. Over half broken? Sounds like foul play to me. No way five bottles break from normal handling. That or they accidentally dropped something heavy on it. Either way it's their fault.
